ISLAMABAD: With a Philippines lady giving birth to her eighth billionth baby a few days ago, the tally has risen the eyebrows of many experts about the upcoming global phenomena of food security and high inflation.

The issue of climate change has further aggravated this challenge as many countries have yet to adapt to climatic changes. Pakistan is also facing the issue of overpopulation and posing a serious challenge to meet the edible needs of the country.

The challenge of population resulted in the shrinking of agricultural land, forcing a massive population influx to cities for jobs. This demand for more residential areas and the developers started utilizing agricultural land for housing societies.

An official of the Ministry of National Food Security Dr. Imtiaz Ali Gopang told the media that under these conditions’ agriculture has gained significance to meet the dietary needs of a population. He said that the government is taking steps to ensure food security and deal with inflation because of an environmental issue and the Covid-19 outbreak.

He added that the Government is also working on multi-strategies to deal with the issue of food security to increase the productivity of crops including seeds. The government had announced an 1800 billion rupees package for the flood-affected farmers, he said. He added that the farmers in flood-affected areas would be provided free of cost wheat seeds as per this package.
