PESHAWAR: In a proactive move to ensure the quality of meat available in the market, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority conducted a targeted operation on Tuesday, confiscating and disposing of a significant quantity of substandard meat and minced meat from butcher shops. Heavy fines were imposed on the violators to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
The Food Authority’s spokesperson reported that, acting on a tip-off, a dedicated team raided a butcher’s shop in Karkhano Market and a residence on Ring Road. The operation resulted in the confiscation of approximately 1200 kg of substandard meat, along with 500 kg of minced meat and kababs.
In response to the violation, both establishments were sealed, and the owners faced substantial fines. The confiscated meat and related products were promptly discarded to prevent their entry into the market, safeguarding public health.
Director General of the Food Authority, Shafiullah Khan, commended the swift and decisive action taken during the operation. He emphasized the commitment to upholding food safety standards and warned that stringent legal measures would be applied against those found compromising the quality of food products.
The crackdown underscores the Food Authority’s dedication to ensuring the availability of safe and hygienic food for the public and sends a strong message to entities engaging in the sale of substandard products.
