Food Exports Witnessing Significant Increase: SIFC

ISLAMABAD: Exports of agricultural and food products are witnessing a significant rise due to the efforts of Special Investment Facilitation Council, an official said on Wednesday.

For the first time, in history, Agro exports increased by 37 percent from 5.8 billion dollars to 8 billion dollars during the last financial year. Rice exports stood at around 3.8 billion dollars, sesame seeds 410 million dollars, corn 421 million dollars, meat 507 million dollars and onion $224 million dollars.

Exports of fruits and spices have also increased manifold. Export of mango increased by 12.74 percent, while that of spices by 7.8 percent.

This increase shows the growing significance of Pakistan’s agriculture sector in the international market and the revolutionary initiatives of SIFC.

The Chief Executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) said that the opening of the Chinese market for Pakistani meat has led to a substantial rise in the meat exports. The tireless efforts of the SIFC and the Ministry of Commerce have opened the new markets of Uzbekistan, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt for meat export. Officials said that Pakistan also exported cherries to China for the first time.
