ABU DHABI: Following the flooding in April, heavy rains have once again hit the United Arab Emirates, leading to flight cancellations and delays in Dubai.
Residents and students have been advised to work and study from home as a precautionary measure, according to Arab media reports.
An orange alert was issued as the UAE braces for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms from May 2 to May 3. This wave of unstable weather has led authorities to advise people to take safety precautions, resulting in various adjustments to daily routines.
In response to the weather forecast, schools have shifted to distance learning, and companies are encouraging employees to work from home. In Dubai, government employees were instructed to work remotely on May 2 and May 3 to minimize exposure to adverse conditions.
The UAE’s disaster management authority has assured the public of their readiness to handle the anticipated weather fluctuations. While this event is not expected to be as severe as the flooding in April, officials are implementing precautionary measures to ensure the safety of residents and minimize any potential impact.
Furthermore, online classes have been announced for government schools on May 2 and 3, with private schools, nurseries, and universities in Dubai also transitioning to online learning during this period.
Flight operations at Dubai International Airport have been significantly affected, with several flights being diverted, canceled, or delayed. Both Emirates and Flydubai reported disruptions to their services due to the adverse weather conditions. Passengers were advised to allow extra travel time to the airport and to stay updated on flight statuses through official channels.
Other airlines, including Air Arabia, Etihad Airways, IndiGo, Vistara, and SpiceJet, have also warned of flight disruptions across various airports in the UAE due to the inclement weather. This comprehensive approach underscores the importance of safety and preparedness in the face of natural events.
