MULTAN: At least five passengers drowned when a car en-route to Multan from Mailsi in connection with a wedding ceremony, fell into a canal here, local media reported on Saturday.
According to the rescue officials, the over-speeding car went out of control of the driver and fell into the Dhamaki canal located near Mailsi city. All the five passengers – aged under 18 – traveling in the car drowned immediately, according to the reports.
The rescue operation was underway at the time of this report to retrieve the bodies of the drowned persons. The rescue operation may take more than six hours, according to the officials.
Last month, seven people including a folksinger Sharafat Ali were killed after the car they were travelling in fell into a canal near Mianwali. Sharafat Ali was going to his home after attending a marriage ceremony when the accident took place.
