ISLAMABAD: Arizona State University (ASU) will open the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Lahore this October, marking the first physical campus of an American university in Pakistan.
Starting classes in October (Fall 2025), NIT will have two main academic divisions: the School of Management Sciences and the School of Data Sciences and Information Technology.
The institute will offer an American-style curriculum tailored to Pakistan’s unique cultural values and educational needs.
Officials from ASU emphasised that NIT will focus on providing students with a personalized learning experience, equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in the global job market.
The collaboration will also offer dual degree programs, allowing students to earn qualifications from both ASU and NIT. They will have the option to study in Pakistan and at ASU campuses worldwide.
Students will have access to exchange and study abroad opportunities through ASU’s international network, which includes campuses in Washington D.C., California, and more than 30 partner institutions via the ASU-Cintana Alliance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who met with ASU representatives on July 24, praised the partnership as a transformative initiative for Pakistan’s education system.
“NIT will be a top-tier institution that empowers our young people to excel in global markets,” he stated, reaffirming the government’s dedication to providing modern, employment-focused education.
The establishment of NIT is anticipated to open up new academic possibilities, generate job prospects, and enhance Pakistan’s reputation in the global educational community.
