ISLAMABAD: First Lady Begum Samina Alvi made a visit to the Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on Friday, where she was informed about the Council’s mandate as well as the services provided to individuals with disabilities and asked people with disabilities to get a NADRA card.
She said that NADRA’s issuing of a special national ID cards and disability certificates to persons with disabilities is a welcome act, adding that disabled people must get the NADRA’s special identity card and disability certifications.
Disability Certificate and NADRA ID Cards
The disability certificate and NADRA ID cards would allow people with disabilities to take advantage of government facilities and schemes, she said. She added that people with disabilities may secure government jobs based on their quota.
Samina Alvi emphasized the importance of taking initiatives to enable the movement of special people countrywide, stating that special people’s access to public areas, marketplaces, and shopping centers should be expanded.
The first lady also urged the business community to work with the government to increase the representation of people with disabilities in the private sector. Officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), NADRA, the Health Ministry, and the Human Rights Ministry briefed the first lady about the services offered to special persons.
She was told that special people can get a disability certificate after undergoing a medical examination by the Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The first lady was informed that the registration facility was also available to injure and disable officers and Jawans of Pakistan’s armed forces. Persons with disabilities are also given special discounts on Railways and PIA tickets, according to Samina Alvi.
