RAFAH: Breaking through a critical barrier in the Gaza Strip, the first truck carrying fuel since the imposition of a total siege by Israel began crossing from Egypt on Wednesday, media reports say quoting two Egyptian security officials.

The delivery of 24,000 liters (6,340 gallons) of diesel fuel was allowed for UN aid distribution trucks. However, this fuel is earmarked for general aid distribution and is not permitted for use in hospitals, as noted by a humanitarian source. Previous deliveries of humanitarian aid from Egypt into Gaza have been limited since October 21, with Israel refusing to allow fuel.

Fuel Shortage in Gaza Amid Israeli Brutalities

The United Nations had recently issued warnings about the imminent halt of humanitarian operations within Gaza, including relief distribution, as fuel stocks became critically depleted. The lack of fuel, essential for hospital generators, water provision, and aid distribution, contributed to a severe deterioration in living conditions for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.

The initial delivery of 24,000 liters of fuel is planned to be carried out over two days, with 12,000 liters allocated for each day, according to an international source familiar with the operation. However, concerns persist about the adequacy of this amount, with the source stating that it is insufficient for hospitals or even comprehensive aid deliveries.

Witnesses reported two additional trucks awaiting entry on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, signaling a potential increase in fuel and aid supply. However, the timing of their entry into Gaza remains uncertain.
