HANOI: A fire engulfed a nine-story apartment complex in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries, according to reports from the official news agency on Wednesday.
Although the exact number of fatalities is yet to be confirmed by authorities, there is a growing fear that many lives may have been lost.
The fire ignited in the middle of the night within the building, which housed approximately 150 residents, as reported by the official Vietnam News Agency (VNA). Thankfully, by 2 a.m. (1900 GMT), firefighters had successfully contained the blaze, as seen in television footage where firefighters, armed with hoses and ladders, worked diligently throughout the night. During daylight hours, a thick, dark plume of smoke emanated from the structure.
The incident has prompted a police investigation into the cause of the fire, as disclosed by the agency.
