KUWAIT CITY: A fire broke out at Kuwait’s Mina Al-Ahmadi oil refinery on Friday after it was struck by multiple drone attacks, state media reported, as several Gulf countries responded to a wave of missile and drone threats attributed to Iran.

The Kuwait News Agency, citing the national oil company, said “several hostile drone attacks” targeted the refinery, causing fires but no casualties. Firefighters were working to contain the blazes while several refinery units were shut down as a precaution.

The attacks come amid a broader escalation, with Iran intensifying strikes on Gulf energy infrastructure in recent days. The campaign follows Israeli attacks on Iran’s South Pars gas field, prompting Tehran to retaliate across the region.

Earlier on Friday, Bahrain’s interior ministry said shrapnel from what it described as an “Iranian aggression” caused a fire at a warehouse. The blaze was later brought under control and no injuries were reported.

Kuwait’s army said its air defence systems were actively responding to missile and drone threats, while state media in the United Arab Emirates reported similar incoming threats.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, in a statement carried by the Tasnim news agency, said they had targeted US forces at Al-Dhafra air base in the UAE, as well as sites in Israel, using missiles and drones.

Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry said its forces intercepted and destroyed more than a dozen drones in the eastern part of the country and another in the north within a span of around two hours.

The latest attacks underscore the widening scope of the conflict, with critical energy infrastructure across the Gulf increasingly at risk and regional militaries on high alert.
