TEHRAN: A fire in a storage area of an Iranian Defence Ministry’s car battery factory north of the capital has been extinguished, state TV reported on Friday.

The incident occurred around midnight in a 2-square kilometer (about 500-acre) storage area housing plastic items in the factory, situated north of Tehran. The television footage depicted a black column of smoke rising in the night time at sky.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire with no casualties and the cause of the fire is under investigation, the report said.

Notably, it did not mention any potential damage from the fire.

Iran’s Defence Ministry has held ownership of the largest and oldest car battery manufacturing facilities within the country for an extended period.

Incidents at various defence industry sites in the nation have witnessed a concerning increase in recent years and has attributed several of these occurrences to alleged acts of aggression or sabotage by Israel.

In August, Iran made accusations against Israel, asserting an attempt to undermine its ballistic missile program by introducing defective foreign components capable of exploding,  or destroying the weapons before they could be deployed for their intended purpose.

Additionally, in 2022, a tragic explosion transpired at a military and weapons development complex known as Parchin, situated to the east of Tehran killed one engineer and left another individual wounded.
