Brazil beat Serbia by 2-0 in the World Cup Match as South American nation’s superstar Neymar suffered injury.
Doctors said that Neymar will undergo medical assessment in the next 48 hours.
National team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said that the Brazilian superstar sustained the injury after a collision with his opponent in the 79th minute of Brazil’s 2-0 win over Serbia.
He said that they need to wait for up to 48 hours to have a better assessment. The doctor, however, said they had not recommended an MRI as they assessed the injury.
The Brazilian superstar was seen limping heavily after the game while photoes of the striker showed swelling on his right ankle.
Brazilian coach Tite said that the Paris Saint-Germain player initially stayed on the field after injuring his ankle because the favourite team badly needed him.
Meanwhile, Brazilian player Richarlison scored two goals as Brazil beat Serbia 2-0 in their World Cup opener on Thursday.
Brazil, the record five-time winners, had to toil at times in the first half. The team, however, improved after the break at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar and were rewarded when Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison followed in to score the opener in the 62nd minute.
Brazilian player Vinicius then set up Richarlison to score again in the 73rd minute with a stunning acrobatic effort that was surely the goal of the World Cup so far.
Injuries have hampered Brazilian player Neymar at World Cup tournaments in the past. Brazil would hope his World Cup had not ended already, although coach Tite struck a positive tone after the match.
He said, “you can be certain that Neymar will play in the World Cup.
Thursday’s result continues Brazil’s twntilising record in the World Cup group stage. Brazil’s last defeat came in 1998 against Norway in the World Cup.
Tite’s side were now already on top of Group G ahead of Switzerland, who beat Cameroon 1-0 earlier, Switzerland will face off Brazil in the next match.
