DOHA: Morocco hammered the world’s number two-ranked Belgium team in a Group F contest of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Al Thumama Stadium, Qatar, on Sunday.

Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal scored each goal to help Morocco beat Belgium.

Sabiri scored through a stunning free-kick to put Morocco in the driver’s seat before Aboukhlal doubled the lead in the extra time of the second half.

Earlier, VAR had denied Morocco an opening goal at the stroke of half-time due to offside. The win helps Morocco replace Belgium at the top spot in the Group F table, while the losing side has slipped to the second spot.

Belgium ranked No. 2 in the world after Brazil, had secured victory in its last seven group matches at the FIFA World Cup. Victory against Belgium was Morocco’s first since 1998 at a World Cup, and only it’s third ever in World Cup history.

If Belgium had defeated Morocco today, it would have become the second team after France to qualify for the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Now, Belgium will Croatia in its final group match, while Morocco will face Canada.
