ISLAMABAD: Morocco made history on Thursday by beating Canada 2-1 to top Group F and become the only Arab team to reach the next round of the World Cup 2022 as well as the first from the region to do so for a second time – 36 years after it did the same in 1986.
After their win against Belgium by 2-0 on Sunday, the Atlas Lions only needed a single point against the already-eliminated Canadians to reach the knockout stage.

Morocco’s Spectacular Performance
Thanks to the goals from Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri which helped Morocco close the first half by 2-0. The North Americans hit back in the second half through Nayef Aguerd’s own goal but it was all they could do.
Now the Atlas Lions await the final results of Group E to see who will be their opponents in the round of 16. Morocco were part of a tough group, including Croatia and Belgium, who finished second and third in 2018 world cup respectively. However, the Atlas Lions clinched four points off the European sides.
