DOHA: Belgium football star Kevin De Bruyne was left confused after being awarded the title of ‘man of the match’ following his team’s world cup match victory over Canada on Wednesday, saying he “didn’t know why” he was given the trophy.
De Bruyne struggled getting into the game and was often left seen frustrated as Belgium clinched a 1-0 victory thanks to Michy Batshuayi’s goal in the first half.
The Manchester City midfielder said that he was unaware of how he got the trophy as he did not think if he played good. “Maybe I got the trophy because of the name,” he added.
He said his team’s performance was not good, particularly, in the start.
Canada wasted multiple chances, including a missed Alphonso Davies penalty, in what was their first World Cup match since 1986. Belgium will now be facing off against Morocco on Sunday, while Canada will take on 2018 runners-up Croatia in their next match. – APP/AFP
