DOHA: FIFA head Gianni Infantino on Friday announced that a 32-team Club World Cup will be held in 2025, despite opposition from Europe’s major clubs. Earlier, a 24-team cup was planned in China in 2021 but delayed due to Covid-19.

Gianni Infantino said that they had agreed in the past to have a new Club World Cup but was delayed due to Covid-19 outbreak. Talking to media in Doha, Qatar, the head of FIFA said that the new mega competition will be held in 2025 and 32 teams like FIFA world cup will take part in the event.

British media reported that some European clubs have rejected FIFA’s new proposal to launch the new competition among the clubs. FIFA chief said that upcoming Club World Cup will be held in Morocco. It may be recalled that the African nation hosted the mega club event in 2013-14.
