In FIFA 2022 World Cup clash Germany beats Costa Rica by 4-2
QATAR: Germany defeated Costa Rica by 4-2 in FIFA 2022 World Cup clash but also crashed out of the mega event.
The four-time FIFA World Cup winners came into the game wanting to win, but they were also relying on the results of the Japan and Spain games to go ahead.
But the Germans were kicked out on goal as Japan followed up their win over Germany with another shock 2-1 win over Spain. Germany took the lead but fell behind in the second half when coach Hansi Flick made several changes, reacting to the lifeline in the Japan-Spain match.

The Germans started well, with Flick’s all-Bayern Munich frontline turning the screws on their heads, beating the Costa Rican defense before Serge Gnabry headed in a cross from Leipzig defender David Raum after 10 minutes. Opened the head. Midfielder Leon Goretzka almost doubled Germany’s lead after five minutes, but his header was straight at Keylor Navas.
Interest began to flow into the German sport. Keysher Fuller, Costa Rica’s hero famous for being the goal-scoring hero in a 1-0 win over Japan, forced Manuel Neuer into a fingertip save after half-hearted saves by Raum and Antonio Ruediger.
Flick returned Kimmich to a more defensive position at half-time, bringing on Lukas Klostermann in the absence of Goretzka, who, like Kimmich, started the game in yellow. Just seven minutes into the second half, news broke at the huge Lusail Stadium that Japan had scored the first two goals to take the lead against Spain, which forced Germany out of the WorldCup.

Flick reacted immediately, bringing Niclas Fuellkrug and removing another midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. Germany looked unlucky as Costa Rica went on the counter in the 58th minute; the ball fell off Neuer and into the path of Yeltsin Tejeda, who fired home.
Flick continued to chase the big game, making changes, but Costa Rica scored the next goal when Juan Pablo Vargas curled a free kick past Neuer to put his side ahead of Spain and in the 16th round. The goal was later recorded as their own goal.
The Germans fought back a few minutes later through Chelsea striker Kai Havertz to save. Havertz scored again in the 86th minute, and Fuellkrug added another in the 89th minute to make it 4-2; the team’s spirit remained tense, and the game was one-sided.
The evening ended with Germany beating Spain second on goal difference. This means that Germany, who did not play the 16th round of the World Cup since the 1980s until the 2018 tournament in Russia, has joined the group stage for the second consecutive World Cup.
