ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has swung into action to stop over 200 suspected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers from leaving the country, local media has reported citing sources.
The FIA has tightened the noose around the PTI workrs and leaders who were allegedly involved in May 9 riots. The sources said that FIA has provided a list of over 200 PTI leaders and workers to the officials at the exit points of the country including airports to stop them from leaving the country.
Sources in the FIA said that the list contains names of the PTI workers wanted to different law-enforcing agencies for their alleged involvement in the May 9 protests. The list has been shared with the immigration officers at all country’s airports and sea ports. The immigration officers have been directed to stop the suspected persons from travelling abroad.
A day earlier, the FIA also sprung into action against overseas Pakistanis over their alleged involvement in posting seditious posts on social media. Sources said that the FIA has decided to put names of overseas Pakistanis on the Exit Control List (ECL) for allegedly posting seditious posts on social media.
Sources within the Agency claimed that red notices will be issued for all expatriates through Interpol if they commit any offence. They further said that ‘spreading negative propaganda’ from abroad would be a violation of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
