FIA to Launch Investigation Against Irregularities in PHF Affairs

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has received a reference to launch a criminal investigation about ‘serious irregularities’ in the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) functioning.

As per details, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif reportedly ordered to set up a high-profile committee for investigating irregularities in the hockey federation. As per media reports, the committee came to know about serious irregularities in the Pakistan Hockey Federation’s operations and sent a reference to the Federal Investigation Agency to open investigations into the matter.

Minutes of the meeting noted that serious irregularities in the functioning of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) had been reported. Therefore, a reference to be made to the FIA for initiating criminal inquiries/investigations.

The committee meeting minutes further noted that Khawaja Asif, the convener, had agreed to refer the case to the Federal Investigation Agency for further investigation despite the Minister for Inter provisional coordination’s (IPC’s) opposition.

The committee also ordered Director General Punjab Sports Board (PSB) to form a committee of Olympians Shahnaz Sheikh, Akhtar Rasool, Salahuddin Siddiqui, and Khawaja Junaid for conducting a performance audit of the federation.

It was proposed that a special audit be conducted through a federal audit via the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination between August 27, 2015, and May 14, 2022.
