LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) once again arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Monday.
Elahi, according to the FIA, needs to be investigated in a money laundering case. The agency is of the view that they have to interrogate the former Punjab chief minister about his alleged front man, Muhammad Zaman.
Before the court, the FIA sought a 14-day physical remand of Elahi. The FIA told the court that Parvez Elahi’s physical remand was required while Elahi’s lawyer opposed the same.
Parvez Elahi’s lawyer said his client was arrested again on political grounds.
Earlier, the FIA claimed to have obtained important evidence in a forensic analysis of the mobile phone of Chaudhry Muhammad Zaman, Elahi’s alleged front man.
According to FIA claims, Zaman handled Elahi’s financial transactions. The accused, in a statement given to the police, has also allegedly confessed to handling Pervez Elahi and his family’s transactions.
