LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday ‘barred’ Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zain Qureshi, son of former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, from flying to Dubai, reported local media.
Zain Qureshi had intended to travel to Dubai through an international airline, but FIA Immigration officials at the airport prevented him from boarding the flight. The reason behind the action was the inclusion of Zain Qureshi’s name on the FIA-maintained Exit Control List (ECL).
Zain, who is the son of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a prominent figure in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, is currently under scrutiny due to his involvement in a case related to the unauthorized disclosure of confidential information, in the light of the Official Secrets Act.
In a related development, the FIA took measures to prevent the departure of more than 200 individuals believed to be affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including leaders and workers. This move was reportedly linked to their alleged participation in the May 9 riots.
To enforce this action, the FIA provided a list of the individuals to various exit points of the country, including airports, in an effort to restrict their travel.
