MULTAN: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Multan zone on Sunday took action against elements involved in currency smuggling, apprehending a suspect and recovering one lac Saudi Riyal from his possession.
The team, under the supervision of Deputy Director Dera Ghazi Khan Zahid Mehmood, raided and apprehended the suspect.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Aleem, a resident of Okara, Punjab was travelling to Quetta, Balochistan. The team, on a tip-off, raided and caught him during the search of the bus.
According to preliminary investigation, the suspect had to smuggle foreign currency from Quetta to Iran and Afghanistan.
An intelligence-based operation was underway against elements involved in foreign currency smuggling. The help of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) has also been obtained for the arrest of the accused.
FIA Special Teams to Curb Currency Smuggling
Special raiding teams have been formed under the supervision of FIA Deputy Directors.
The raiding teams were carrying out operations based on secret information against the suspects involved in the smuggling of foreign currency. Strict actions were also taken against the facilitators and cash carriers involved in the hundi.
FIA said that those involved in foreign currency smuggling will be punished as per the law.
The FIA spokesperson said that all resources were being utilized to catch the accused under the directions of Director General FIA Mohsin Hasan Butt.
