ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has taken a significant step in addressing the events that unfolded on May 09, 2023, by establishing a five-member Cabinet Committee.
This committee, comprising key ministers, is tasked with a comprehensive examination of the incidents, aiming to identify the masterminds, planners, facilitators, and executors involved.
The Committee, with the Minister for Law and Justice as its Convener, will be supported by members including the Minister for Interior, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Minister for Human Rights, and any co-opted member deemed necessary during the proceedings.
The outlined Terms of Reference (ToRs) for the Committee encompass a detailed investigation into the sequence of events leading up to the incidents on May 09, 2023. The committee will delve into the identity and roles of those involved, analyzing causes and determining responsibility for the events.

Additionally, the ToRs extend to evaluating the immediate and long-term implications of the incidents. The Committee is expected to propose preventive measures to avert the recurrence of such breaches of national security. Furthermore, recommendations will be made to fortify the existing legal framework, ensuring a robust deterrent against similar occurrences.
To streamline its operations, the Ministry of Interior will extend secretarial support to the Committee. The Committee has been mandated to submit its comprehensive report to the Cabinet within a stipulated period of fourteen days, outlining its findings and recommendations for further consideration and action.
