ISLAMABAD: Omar Abdullah, the Vice-President of the National Conference, has asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government under Prime Minister Modi is hesitant to conduct elections in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) due to their apprehension of facing defeat.
Omar Abdullah further stated that the Modi-led government is fully aware that the people of Kashmir are unlikely to vote for the BJP.
He emphasized this point during a gathering in Srinagar, as reported by Kashmir Media Service (KMS), and mentioned, “I have been consistently expressing that Modi’s administration is reluctant to hold elections in the occupied region because they are well aware that the local populace does not support them.”
He said, “The Indian government seems uninterested in conducting any elections in Jammu and Kashmir apart from those for the Parliament.”
When asked about the opposition’s meeting in Jammu, Omar Abdullah responded, “During this meeting, the situation in IIOJK will be thoroughly assessed.” —APP
