ISLAMABAD: An endangered Common Asian Leopard jumped into a private housing society in Islamabad on Thursday and wounded an elderly man in an under-construction building, triggering fear among the residents.

After the incident, the Assistant Commissioner Rural Zukhruf Fida Malik requested the residents of the society and neighboring areas to stay at home, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration said in a statement.

The AC confirmed that a leopard was spotted in the residential area of the private housing society. He said that the ICT administration and wildlife department were trying to trace the leopard. Public places and parks would remain closed until the big cat was captured.
The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board officials also said that a team comprising of experts and Board officials is trying efforts to capture the leopard safely.
He said a team armed with a dart gun was also called from the Ayub National Park to sedate the leopard for its safe evacuation. He added that the Punjab Wildlife Department teams were also present to help the Board officials in the rescue operation.
The IWMB official said that the leopard might have entered the area from Kotli Sattian and Lethrar, the adjoining areas with a sizeable green cover.
