FCDO, UNDP Extend Partnership to Improve Governance, Public Service Delivery

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Thursday signed a new Contribution Arrangement to extend their partnership for the period 2023-2026.

According to a UNDP press release, the FCDO has extended its engagement due to successive governments’ ongoing ownership of the project’s reform efforts.

The Contribution Arrangement will not only broaden the scope and geographic coverage of UNDP’s Reforms and Innovation project for enhancing governance effectiveness and improving public service delivery from the federal to provincial government levels but will also introduce new programming streams in the form of risk governance interventions.

Sindh’s Asghar Memon, Chief Economist, Planning and Development Department, expressed gratitude to FCDO and UNDP for responding to the provincial government’s request for technical assistance, saying, that we are grateful for the opportunity to work with UNDP and FCDO to improve governance in our province by institutionalizing risk governance frameworks and practices for improved disaster management and recovery.

Jo Moir, Development Director for the British High Commission, said on the occasion, that we are excited to expand our partnership with UNDP in Pakistan. We are committed to continuing our collaborative efforts to institutionalize performance-driven management of public sector organizations and evidence-based policymaking.

He said that we are confident that this partnership will continue to benefit the people of Pakistan as we expand our assistance to the provincial level and implement risk governance interventions.

Knut Ostby, UNDP’S Resident Representative said that FCDO is a longstanding trusted partner of UNDP. He added that we have collaborated and worked together in Pakistan’s governance landscape to make a long-term impact through systemic reforms.

He added that he was pleased to announce that our collaboration has been extended with additional resources until 2026. He said he would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Government of Sindh for entrusting UNDP as a key partner in advancing the government’s institutional reform agenda.

Since 2015, the UNDP’s Reforms and Innovation project has been working to improve governance and public service delivery outcomes in Pakistan.
