ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2024, after requests from trade associations and Tax Bar Associations.
The new deadline is October 14, 2024, as per a notification issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) late on Monday.
The FBR said in the notification that the Federal Board of Revenue is pleased to extend the date for filing of Income Tax returns for the Tax Year 2024. It added that the decision has been taken in view of requests from various trade bodies, Tax Bar Associations as well as the general public.
The new announcement comes hours following the FBR had earlier said that that no further extensions would be granted. In a statement issued earlier on Monday, the FBR rejected circulating rumors regarding a possible extension, asking taxpayers to file their returns promptly.
The FBR had said that all taxpayers are asked to file their income tax returns promptly to avoid fines and penalties. The FBR also reported that more than 3.5 million individuals had already submitted their returns positively, with most returns from salaried being being processed without significant problem.
The FBR is hopeful that the extended deadline will give taxpayers the extra time they need to submit their returns, ensuring compliance as well as avoiding penalties.
