ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has announced that the examinations scheduled for 10 May (Wednesday) have been cancelled after violent protests ensued following ex-prime minister Imran Khan’s arrest.
The Pakistan Studies exam for class nine will not take place in Pakistan and abroad, the board’s controller of examinations said, with the new date set to be announced later on.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Following his arrest, the PTI urged supporters across Pakistan to protest and “close all shops and block all roads”.
Subsequently, PTI workers protested in several cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Mardan and Peshawar.
The British Council has also cancelled all the papers scheduled for 10 May. The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad and the Board of Secondary Education Karachi decided to continue the exams.
Punjab education authorities have cancelled the ninth-class exam scheduled for May 10.
The Punjab Higher Education Department (PHED) exams across the province have been cancelled, and the new date will be announced later.
The PHED has also announced to close all colleges and universities in the province.
