ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan women’s cricket team is gearing up for their ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup campaign, starting on Thursday, October 2, against Bangladesh.
After a stellar qualification run, where they maintained a perfect win record in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier held in Lahore, the team is eager to make their mark on the global stage.
Captain Fatima Sana expressed optimism about the team’s preparations, stating, “Our preparations have been focused and purposeful. We have worked on areas needing improvement, and it’s encouraging to see our progress.”
Despite a recent 2-1 series loss to South Africa in Lahore, the team remains committed. Seven players are set to make their World Cup debuts, including Eyman Fatima, Natalia Parvaiz, and Rameen Shamim, bringing fresh energy to the squad.
All group-stage matches will be held at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, with hopes of advancing to the semi-finals on October 29 and the finals on November 2.
Fatima emphasized the importance of consistency and teamwork: “Wearing the Pakistan shirt is an honor, and every player understands the responsibility that comes with it. Our aim is to play positive cricket and make Pakistan proud, InshaAllah.”
