ISLAMABAD: Farzana Raja, a prominent political figure and member of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), has asked the party leadership to remove her name from Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) corruption reference filed against her by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
She has also asked the Chairman PPP, Asif Ali Zardari to help her becoming active in politics again.
Farzana Raja is residing now in London after being named in NAB BISP corruption case. She held various positions within the party and served as the chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), a social welfare initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to vulnerable segments of society.
Sources confirmed to wenews.com that previously she was offered the slot of “Central Information Secretary”, of the PPP and also joining back the party in active politics.
Farzana Raja has reportedly urged former President Asif Ali Zardari to allow her to become participate in active politics.
Case against Farzana Raja
Following allegations of corruption in BISP funds during her tenure, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference was filed against Farzana Raja. The reference alleged discrepancies amounting to Rs4.8 billion in the year 2012-13, primarily related to the awarding of contracts through unfair practices and non-compliance with the rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority.
After the corruption allegations surfaced, it has been reported that Farzana Raja has been residing in London. It is suggested that her stay in London is connected to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings against her.
