SRINAGAR: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the National Conference, has raised concerns over the continued detention of thousands of Kashmiris, challenging the authorities’ assertions of peace in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Speaking to the Press in Srinagar, Abdullah questioned the narrative of improved conditions while Kashmiri youth remain incarcerated. He emphasized the need for authorities to address the plight of these individuals and grant them the dignity they deserve.

Abdullah called for the release of Kashmiri youth held in jails across India, viewing it as a crucial step towards alleviating the sense of alienation among the Kashmiri populace. He underscored the importance of humanitarian gestures in fostering reconciliation and restoring trust.

Expressing hopes for democratic processes, Abdullah advocated for the conduct of parliamentary, panchayat, municipal, and assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed the significance of inclusive electoral participation in empowering local communities and promoting democratic governance.

The remarks by Abdullah reflect ongoing concerns regarding human rights violations and political repression in IIOJK, highlighting the urgency of addressing systemic issues to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
