ISLAMABAD: Renowned researcher, playwright, and writer Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj was remembered Friday on his birth anniversary.
His father Syed Mumtaz Ali was a journalist and religious scholar, born in Lahore on October 13, 1900, into a family of literary intellectuals and artists.
Imtiaz’s father founded the educational children’s magazine Phool, which became well-known and flourished for over 40 years. After his father passed away in 1935, Imtiaz Ali Taj assumed editorial control of the publication, leading it to greater heights.
Imtiaz Ali Taj’s play Anarkali
Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj is famous for his 1922 play Anarkali, which was based on the life of “Anarkali.” This play was staged hundreds of times and adapted for feature films, including the blockbuster Indian movie Mughal-e-Azam.

“Chacha Chakan” was a hilarious comedy of plays for children with themes of satire and humor. “Chacha Chakan” is considered the funniest character in Urdu drama.
He also wrote screenplays, short stories, and novels. Imtiaz also remained active in the theatre as a director and an actor. Imtiaz Ali Taj was murdered on April 19, 1970, while asleep in his bed by unknown people.
