ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s explosive opening batter, Fakhar Zaman, has been honored with the prestigious International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Player of the Month award for the month of April 2023, the cricket governing body announced on Tuesday. Fakhar’s scintillating performances throughout the month secured him the well-deserved recognition.
The left-handed batsman outshined tough competition from Sri Lanka’s spin wizard Prabath Jayasuriya and emerging New Zealand batter Mark Chapman, as stated in an official press release by the ICC. Fakhar’s outstanding contributions were instrumental in propelling Pakistan to success, particularly during their second-highest run chase in One Day Internationals (ODIs) against New Zealand in Rawalpindi.
During the thrilling encounter, Fakhar Zaman played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 180 runs, enabling Pakistan to successfully chase down a target of 337 and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. His remarkable innings consisted of 17 boundaries and six colossal sixes, and Pakistan emerged victorious with 10 balls to spare in a high-scoring match.
This wasn’t the only standout performance from Fakhar in April. In the first game of the series, he struck a magnificent century, scoring 117 off 114 deliveries to guide Pakistan to a successful chase of 289 runs at the same venue. Fakhar’s crucial contributions earned him the Player of the Match award on both occasions.
Fakhar Zaman began the month with a rapid 47 runs in the first T20I against Kiwis in Lahore, playing a pivotal role in Pakistan’s commanding 88-run victory. Although he couldn’t replicate his success in the subsequent T20Is, Fakhar found his rhythm in the ODI format, where he has consistently excelled.
