NEW YORK: As world leaders gathered in New York for the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman of the World Forum for Peace & Justice, has made a compelling appeal for decisive action to implement UN Resolutions on the Kashmir dispute.
Dr. Fai emphasized the urgency of the situation, warning that each day without a resolution brings the region closer to a potentially catastrophic outcome, especially given the long-standing tensions between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan over Kashmir.
He highlighted the international legitimacy of the Kashmir issue, citing numerous UN Security Council resolutions that grant the right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir. Dr. Fai called for these resolutions to be unequivocally honored.
Dr. Fai also condemned the world’s silence on the ongoing human rights abuses in Kashmir, attributing India’s actions to a sense of impunity. He noted that India, as a UN Charter signatory, should be held accountable for its violations.
Furthermore, Dr. Fai pointed out the unique geopolitical situation of Kashmir, surrounded by three nuclear powers—India, Pakistan, and China. He underscored the ever-present nuclear threat and urged major world powers to take this issue seriously.
