Fact Check: No Pakistani Died in Kyrgyzstan Violence?

Islamabad: There has been a wave of concern on electronic and social media following the reports of injuries of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The people of Pakistan especially the parents of the students showed their anxiety after the surface of news on social media. However, top officials from both sides said that no Pakistani injured or killed in the recent mob violence against international students in the central Asian country.

Regarding the situation in Bishkek, not only the Pakistani ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Hasan Zaigham, but high-ranking Pakistani officials are also in contact with the Kyrgyz authorities.

According to the official X account of the Pakistani Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, the Kyrgyz government has confirmed that no Pakistani students have died in the recent mob violence against international students. Additionally, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Interior has also issued press releases stating that the situation is under control.

On the situation in Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the government has contacted the Kyrgyz authorities to ensure the safety of Pakistani students amid the violence in Bishkek. According to the Pakistani embassy, foreign students living in Bishkek were tortured by local people after a dispute with Egyptian citizens a few days ago.

Describing the reports of mob attacks on students as “extremely alarming”, the Deputy Prime Minister directed Pakistan’s ambassador to Kyrgyzstan to provide them with full facilities.

The embassy has already shared helpline numbers +996555554476 and +996507567667, and answered hundreds of calls from students and their families.

“No Pakistani students were killed during the fighting in Bishkek and expressed sorrow over the people’s attitude who are spreading hate” a social media user posted. The account further wrote, “It is a very contemptable act to post videos with captions like Pakistanis is being Killed”. The social media account termed it a fake news.
