ISLAMABAD: Recent claims circulating on some Indian social media platforms claimed that Pakistan permitted the use of its airspace for military operations against Iran, reportedly in connection with the US strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.

These allegations, when fact-checked, were not supported by verifiable evidence and stood in contrast to Pakistan’s official policy stance.

What are the facts?

The government of Pakistan has not granted permission to either the United States or Israel to use its airspace, land, or sea routes for any military action against Iran.

Official sources reaffirm that such permission was neither sought nor granted.

Condemnation of military strikes on Iran

Following the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites during the night of June 21–22, 2025, Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a formal statement condemning the attack.

The statement emphasised Pakistan’s opposition to any unilateral use of force that undermines regional peace.

Support for Iran

An in-depth analysis of the issue suggests that Pakistan has consistently raised its voice against Israeli military actions targeting Iran, particularly on international forums.

The country has reiterated its full political, moral, and diplomatic support for Iran in the face of what it terms “Israeli aggression.”

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in Istanbul and reaffirmed Islamabad’s “unwavering support for Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its right to self-defence under the UN Charter”.

“I reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of Israel’s unjustified and unlawful attacks on Iran, as well as the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities,” Dar stated in a post on X.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, condemned the United States’ strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as “a serious violation of international law and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Statute.

During the telephone conversation, PM Sharif reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defence and stressed the need to immediately return to dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable way forward to prevent further escalation, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Foreign policy

Islamabad has maintained a clear position of non-alignment in foreign military conflicts. It continues to assert that it will not be a party to wars driven by bloc politics or foreign military confrontations, reinforcing its commitment to sovereignty and non-interference.

Emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy

Pakistan has stressed the need for immediate de-escalation and peaceful resolution of conflicts through mutual dialogue. It has called for diplomatic engagement as the only viable path to a stable and sustainable peace in the region.

Officials have stated that the country maintains active communication with all relevant stakeholders to reduce tensions and avoid further instability.
