WASHINGTON:  A fake Jamaican birth certificate has been shared on different platforms of social media alongside the repeated false tale that Kamala Harris is ineligible to be president of the United States.

A false post on social media alleges that Kamala Harris’ birth certificate was found in the archives of a Jamaican hospital and stated it casts doubt on the legitimacy of her candidacy as it supposedly hints Harris is not a natural-born citizen of the US.

The social media posts echo previous “birtherism” narratives claiming Harris is not a natural-born citizen. Harris, born in Oakland, California, is a natural-born citizen as defined by the Constitution of the US and is eligible to be president, as earlier addressed by Reuters.

The Registrar General’s Department of Jamaica told Lead Stories that there are no birth records in its repository for Kamala Harris. The Harris campaign also declined to comment over the matter. Kamala Harris was born in Oakland, California and is a natural-born citizen of the United States and Social media posts shared an inauthentic Jamaican birth certificate.
