Key points

  • PTI’s protest fizzled out in Islamabad and Rawalpindi
  • Small gatherings dispersed quickly
  • False reports of curfews were disproven

ISLAMABAD: While Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party’s nationwide protest marking former prime minister Imran Khan’s two years in prison fizzled out quickly, some Indian media outlets were spotted spreading fake news claiming the imposition of curfew in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

India Today published a news story claiming, “Pakistan braces for Imran Khan party storm, curfew in Rawalpindi, Islamabad”, which turned out to be fake.

No curfew

Contrary to the report, there was no curfew imposed in Islamabad or Rawalpindi during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s protest.

In reality, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s protest on Tuesday failed to gain significant traction in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, according to Dawn.

Only small groups were seen gathering in sectors F-6, F-8, and Aabpara Market, waving party flags. These groups dispersed shortly after police intervention, based on surveillance from Safe City cameras.

Detainees released

Police detained some individuals, but most were released within a few hours.

Despite an announced grand rally from Zero Point to F-9 Park by PTI Islamabad Region President Aamir Mughal, no such rally took place.

Similarly, in Rawalpindi, only a handful of PTI supporters gathered at a few locations without any major protests on main roads or squares.
