SACRAMENTO, California: A video that has been circulating online, falsely depicted as showing Hells Angels motorcycle club members heading to Aurora, Colorado, in response to rumors about a gang taking over an apartment there, actually dates back nearly a decade.
The clip, which shows numerous bikers near a gas station and heading towards an underpass with the date August 31 and the text “all branches of the Outlaws Hellsangels Heading to,” does not specify their destination.
One social media post misinterpreted the video, captioning it with unverified claims that “all Branches of the Outlaws ((81) hellsangels are heading to Aurora to deal with the problem #GANGWAR.” In reality, the footage is part of a longer video uploaded to YouTube on July 10, 2015, titled “The Mongols in the Pass” and described as “500 bikes getting on the east freeway to Laughlin.” The bikers are seen wearing gear with the Mongols logo and “California” emblazoned on it.
Google Street View images confirm that the video was filmed at a former Shell gas station on Highland Springs Avenue in Beaumont, California.
Sydney Edwards, a public information officer with the Aurora Police Department, stated in a September 4 email to Reuters that there is no evidence supporting claims that Hells Angels members had arrived in Aurora. Edwards noted that while police are still investigating the viral video and have seized a firearm shown in it. Interim Chief of Police Heather Morris issued a statement on August 31 clarifying that gang members live in the community but have not taken over any apartment complex.
VERDICT: The video is miscaptioned. It dates back to 2015 and features Mongols motorcycle club members in California, not Hells Angels bikers traveling to Aurora, Colorado, in 2024.
