Exports Increase by 21.22pc to Rs. 6.862trn in FY2023

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Tuesday that the exports from Pakistan in terms of rupee increased by 21.22 percent during the fiscal year 2022-23 compared to the last year (2021-22).

According to provisional data released by PBS, exports from July 2022 to June 2023 were recorded at Rs. 6,862,294 million as against Rs. 5,661,128 million during the same period of the previous year, indicating an increase of 21.22 percent.

On a year-on-year basis, exports from Pakistan during June 2023 amounted to Rs. 675,280 million as against Rs. 594,985 million during June 2022, showing an increase of 13.50 percent.

On a month-on-month basis, the exports increased by 7.52 percent compared to Rs. 628,037 million in May last year.

The primary commodities of exports during June 2023 were readymade garments (Rs. 91,582 million), knitwear (Rs. 112,348 million), cotton yarn (Rs.30,692 million), towels (Rs.24,999 million), bed wear (Rs. 68,891 million), cotton cloth (Rs. 46,601 million), rice others (Rs.24,487 million), rice basmati (Rs.17,728 million), made-up articles, excluding bedwear and towels (Rs.16,370 million) and medical instruments and surgical goods (Rs.11,581 million).

However, imports from July last year to June this year totaled Rs. 13,510,178 million compared to Rs. 14,273,391 million during the same period of the previous year, showing a decrease of 5.35%.

During June 2023, the imports were witnessed at Rs. 1,209,177 million compared to Rs. 1,235,475 million in May 2023 and Rs. 1,605,666 million during June 2022, indicating a fall of 2.13% in May 2023 and 24.69% in June 2022.

Primary commodities of imports during June 2023 were Palm oil (Rs. 71,423 million), Plastic Materials (Rs. 53,408 million), Petroleum crude (Rs.121,700 million), Petroleum products (Rs. 252,266 million), Natural gas, liquefied (Rs.83,661 million), Iron & steel (Rs.47,081 million), Electric machinery & apparatus (Rs.33,672 million), Medicinal products (Rs.27,192 million), Pulses (leguminous vegetables) (Rs.16,770 million), and Iron & steel scrap (Rs.17,361 million).

The primary items of imports during June 2023 were petroleum crude (Rs.121,700 million), natural gas, liquified (Rs.83,661 million), petroleum products (Rs. 252,266 million), medicinal products (Rs.27,192 million), iron & steel scrap (Rs.17,361 million), palm oil (Rs. 71,423 million), plastic materials (Rs. 53,408 million), iron & steel (Rs.47,081 million), electric machinery & apparatus (Rs.33,672 million), and pulses/leguminous vegetables (Rs.16,770 million). —APP
