Residents also confirmed the blast in the African country. Attacks from terrorists waging a 14-year war have eased in the region and they no longer hold large area, but they still attack rural parts of the country, and military bases. Militants linked to ISWAP late on Monday killed about 17 people in an assault on a farming village in Yobe State over their decline to pay a cattle levy imposed by the militants, locals said.

On Tuesday, locals from the village and communities held a funeral for the victims of the attack in Kayayya in the Geidam area of Yobe, sources said.

A group of 22 men were returning home on a vehicle when they struck a landmine believed to have been planted by militants.”20 mourners died in the blast and two were seriously wounded,” said Gremah Bukar, a member of an anti-terrorist militia that helps the country’s army. “There were fears the militants could return and disrupt the funeral of the victims but the people asserted on burying the dead bodies,” Bukar said.
