VILNIUS: Lithuania Gas Transmission Operator Amber Grid said on Friday that a gas pipeline connecting Latvia and Lithuania was hit by a blast, adding there was no evidence of an attack.
Amber Grid Chief Executive Nemunas Biknius told the media that the investigation will cover all possible options but they do not see any malign reason. The supply of the substance was cut off but the CEO Biknius said that the explosion had damaged one of two parallel pipelines supplying gas from Lithuania to Latvia and that Amber planned to restore supply by utilizing the unaffected one. Biknius said that they are making efforts to restore the supply of gas in a few hours.
Gas Pipeline
Lithuania borders Russia and is situated on the Baltic Sea where the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream gas pipelines were damaged by blasts in 2022. Baltic news agency BNS reported that no injured were reported during the explosion.
