ISLAMABAD: Swabi, a district in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is often overlooked by tourists — but it has much to offer. With a rich cultural history, scenic beauty, and peaceful environment, Swabi is a great destination for travellers looking to explore something different.
Hund ruins and museum
Located near the Indus River, the ancient site of Hund was once the capital of the Hindu Shahi dynasty.

Today, visitors can explore the ruins and visit the Hund Museum to learn about the region’s past. The site is calm and offers a unique look into early south Asian history.
Kundal Dam
Kundal Dam, a relatively new structure in Swabi, stands 48 m high with a capacity of nearly 11,000 acre-feet.

The government plans to develop it into a recreational site with facilities such as walking tracks, rest areas, and parking.
Baja Wildlife Park
Baja Wildlife Park, established in 2013 near Bam Khel, is the only official wildlife park in Swabi and focuses on conservation and education.

Visitors appreciate its green surroundings and family-friendly atmosphere, although it’s still developing. The park features animals such as deer, monkeys, and pheasants, and is expected to improve as tourism infrastructure expands.
Local culture and food
Swabi is also known for its warm hospitality, traditional Pashtun culture, and delicious food. Local dishes such as chapli kebab is a must-try for any visitor.

Though not as famous as northern hill stations, Swabi offers a mix of history, nature, and culture. It’s a great spot for those looking to explore a quieter and more authentic side of Pakistan.
