BEIJING: Aleksei Semenov, a professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University and an academician of both the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Education, emphasized that BRICS cooperation should focus not only on developing new technologies but also on sharing valuable educational experiences.

Semenov noted that most artificial intelligence research is currently concentrated in the United States, with some efforts in Europe, while BRICS countries, including Russia, have made comparatively less progress in this field. A critical issue he highlighted is data bias, as reported by China Daily.

When AI systems are trained primarily on data from English-speaking countries, it can result in biased outcomes. Semenov explained that this problem is exacerbated on the internet, where biased information, such as fake news, spreads rapidly and influences other content.

To address this, he suggested that BRICS nations should utilize open resources and open-source technologies to develop AI models in national languages. This approach would help mitigate the bias associated with relying solely on English-language data.

Moreover, Semenov stressed the importance of enhancing local education systems in BRICS countries by sharing knowledge and experiences among teachers, students, and communities. He specifically pointed out that China has significant potential to lead in this exchange of educational expertise.
