MULTAN: In the Multan division, the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics department has recovered Rs 1.15 billion in taxes as of October, which is 6% more than the goal set for the current fiscal year.
The departmental teams are working hard to meet the overall target of Rs 2.85 billion set for the Multan division, Director Excise Jam Siraj Ahmad stated in a Sunday interview with APP. The teams have collected 650 million rupees in property tax, 420 million rupees in motor tax, 30 million rupees in professional tax, 7 million rupees in cotton fee, and other taxes across the Multan division, which is 41% of the total recovery so far and 370 million rupees over the target.
Jam Siraj added that there was healthy competition among the staff members, and at the end of each month, trophies and commendation certificates were given to those who had performed the best.
In order to collect taxes as much as possible, he said that all modern technology was being used. He also said that he regularly heard complaints through online web portals. According to representatives of excise, the survey to include new units in the tax net is also in progress and will be finished by the end of this year, in December.
For the purpose of recovering Rs 130 in unpaid debts from 500 mega defaulters, the department took strict action, and they have now paid back 80% of that debt. According to Mr. Siraj, the excise office has nine special counters set up to make it easier for customers to provide their vehicle’s biometrics.
The Punjab government’s offer of a rebate has been withdrawn, and taxes were now being collected with a 1% fine. To avoid any inconvenience, he urged the taxpayers to submit their payments on time. The campaign to educate and inform taxpayers was also in progress. He continued by saying that the road-checking teams were conducting daily raids against unregistered and minor tax defaulters. When it comes to tax-related complaints, Director Excise said that his office is open to everyone. — APP
