TEHRAN: Iranian activist Faezeh Hashemi, daughter of the former president of Iran Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, has been sentenced to five years over acts against national security and “propaganda,” as per her lawyer.
Faezeh Hashemi was arrested on September 27 in the capital Tehran for encouraging residents to demonstrate amid nationwide protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini. While planning to appeal the verdict, her lawyer Neda Shams said that her client Faezeh Hashemi was sentenced to five years in prison by the preliminary court.
Her lawyer added that the 60-year-old, daughter of the ex-president of Iran, former lawmaker, and women’s rights activist, was charged with propaganda against the Islamic republic, collusion against national security, and disturbing public order by participating in illegal gatherings. Her lawyer added that the decision, which is not final, was communicated to her on Wednesday and that they will appeal within the time frame allowed by the law.
