ISLAMABAD:  J. Salik, former federal minister for population welfare and convener of World Minorities Alliance (WMA), Sunday demanded the United Nations (UN) to translate and disseminate its publications and documents in Urdu language and declare it as its 7th official language.

He also called for allowing designated minorities’ days in General Assembly to end disparity.

He was exchanging views with Muhammad Saeed Faisal, Patron-in-Chief WMA on the next international interfaith conference to be organized by the Alliance in Washington.

J. Salik said that the UN should ensure the distribution of its documents in Turkish, Bangla, Swahili, and Korean as these languages are also spoken by millions of people worldwide.

UN should realize Urdu is a widely spoken language

He said that the UN should realize that Urdu language is widely spoken and understood in South Asia, and due to the rising Pakistani, Indian, Sri Lankan, Bengali, and Nepalese diaspora in the Middle East it is popular among a huge number of people.

Salik said that Pakistan is the only country that has been created by the minority of the Indian subcontinent against the majority Hindus.

Its flag also represents the rights of minorities and their representation in the country.
