Malmo, Sweden: Switzerland’s Nemo says Eurovision “needs a little bit of fixing” after winning a controversial edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden’s Malmo.
The younger performer recalled that they had to smuggle a flag representing non-binary people as the organiser banned all flags other than those of the participating countries.
Representing Switzerland, a country known for its neutrality, Nemo takes home the prize in a year where the contest has been marred by controversy and protests over Israel’s participation.
Nemo’s song “The Code” helped them take home the trophy, making them the first non-binary artist to win the contest.
