ISTANBUL: The European Union (EU) has requested the formation of panels at the World Trade Organization (WTO) for two of its trade disputes with China, the European Commission (EC) said on Wednesday.
The commission said in a statement that the establishment of one panel has been requested to deal with the issue of the legality of Chinese trade restrictions on Lithuanian exports and European Union exports having Lithuanian content since December last year.

The other panel relates to the legality of Chinese restriction on European Union holders of high technology patents from approaching European Union courts to effectively enforce and protect their rights.

The commission said that Chinese steps were very damaging to European businesses. It negatively affected the European Union’s internal market functioning.

It added that the European Union is protecting its member states against discriminatory measures of China, by approaching a panel of WTO. –APP/AA
