ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day approaches, EU envoy to Pakistan Dr. Riina Kionka, along with other top musicians, paid a special tribute to the South Asian country by performing a version of the national anthem — ‘Pak Sarzamin.
In a statement via social media, the delegation of the EU to Pakistan said, “This version is a celebration of the rich cultural diversity of Pakistan and the power of #UnityinDiversity. Happy Independence Day, Pakistan,”.

The video shared via social media shows several musicians representing all provinces of the South Asian country and playing numerous instruments.
Along with the EU envoy Kionka, who can be seen playing the trumpet, were Doulat Wali Baig from Gilgit Baltistan, Sulaeyman Khan from Balochistan, Sameer Ahmed from Sindh, Salman Adil from Punjab, Sarmad Ghafoor from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Amna Nizami from the country’s capital city Islamabad.
Last year, in a special gesture to honour Pakistan’s 75th Independence Day, Kionka also played the national anthem on the trumpet.
In a press statement, the EU Commission said that the unique way to mark the upcoming August 14, when Pakistan obtained independence in 1947, was shared via a special campaign on social media platforms of the EU delegation to Pakistan in Islamabad.
